If you want to explore more dirt rads, the Honda CRF250 dual-sport is a proper option, offering the agility and power needed for rough terrain.
If your focus is on roads and longer sections, the Honda CB500X is recommended. Other options include, XR150 and or an adventure model, the BMW GS.
This Dien Bien Phu Motorcycle Tour, and generally the northwest, including Sapa, is best to ride, at the end of summer season (the rainy season), usually runs from June to August.
The northwest gets warmer and drier from Laos, so temperatures remain comfortable despite the elevation. The months from September to May generally offer better riding conditions, with clearer skies and more stable weather.
It is considered historic due to its strong links to the French colonial era. Dien Bien Phu was the site of the decisive battle that ended French rule in Vietnam. The region includes key landmarks such as the old French-built Highway 6 and Son La Prison, which was used during the colonial period.
Pha Din Pass also features artillery positions and bunkers from the war. Along the route, you can still see traces of colonial presence, local resistance, and remaining military structures.
The Historic Northwest route passes through one of the least populated regions of Vietnam. We ride beyond the main roads into remote countryside, where you’ll visit small villages inhabited by ethnic groups such as the Black Hmong, offering insight into their daily life.
