I have developed a couple of fully supported cross-border motorbike tours between Vietnam and Laos, varying between 11 to 16 days, start in Hanoi toward the north crossing the border to Laos following the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos side, to Luang Prabang and Vientiane. We ride across the infamous trails, dirt tracks, tarmac and mountain passes, river crossing and dust and trails. Destinations on Vietnam and Laos Motorbike Tours
Hanoi, Pu Luong, Xam Nuea, Luang Prabang, Phonsavan, Vieng Thong, Nang Khang, Xepon, Ta OI, Nong, Sekong and re-enter Vietnam side following a scenic ride toward Danang. Remote ethnic villages, jungle crossing, war sites make this an epic ride. These cross border adventure tours are suitable for anyone interested in an longer rides between Vietnam and Laos.
Vietnam side: northwest highlands to Dien Bien Phu
The Vietnam side starts in Hanoi and moves through Hoa Binh, Thung Khe Pass, and Mai Chau before climbing onto the Moc Chau plateau and crossing Pa Din Pass into Son La. The route continues west to Dien Bien Phu on mountain roads with consistent elevation changes. Dien Bien Phu is the final stop before the border check out. Riders on extended routes take additional dirt sections through Muong Phang and the Nam Na river valley before reaching Tay Trang.
Laos side: Phongsali to Luang Prabang
From Tay Trang border station, we check in to Laos side at Sop Hun and continues south to Phongsali through forested river valleys and dirt trails. We definitely visit must see cities in Laos such as Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane and more.

Visa and border crossing
Both Vietnam and Laos requires number of nationalities to apply visa in advance and i will take care of that in case you need a visa to enter. For the border permits and paperworks, this is a logistic work and i will take care of that as well once the trip is approaching.
recommended bikes for tours betwen vietnam & laos?
There are various motorbike models to choose from. The Honda XR series (150 & 190) are lightweight and easy to manage. The CRF series including the 250 and the 300L are more for off-rods and capable of longer distance rides. Adventure models including the Honda CB500x, a lightweight adventure model. Other models including BMW GS and the Tiger 1200 GT explore in Vietnam side. For Laos side, there are only CRF 250 and the Royal Enfield Scrambler available for my tours running between Vietnam and Laos.
When’s the best time for the Vienam Laos Motorbike tours
November to March offers stable conditions across both countries with dry roads and dirt tracks in Laos and cooler temperatures in the highlands. Late September to October works for Vietnam with mixed conditions in Laos. April remains rideable before early rains. May to September is wet season with more difficult conditions on dirt sections, especially in northern Laos.
