Day 1: Hanoi to Vu Linh (Approx. 180 km)
The adventure kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with a short safety and trip briefing before rolling out by 9:00 a.m. We leave Hanoi via Nhat Tan Bridge, trading busy highways for scenic Red River levees through Vinh Phuc Province.
The 40 km levee ride passes green rice paddies, lush gardens, and quiet villages where buffalo roam freely. We stop for lunch in Doan Hung, then cross the Lo River by ferry into rolling tea hills tended by the Hmong people and through Dzao ethnic minority villages.
By late afternoon, we arrive at our Dzao homestay near Thac Ba Lake for a relaxing boat ride before dinner. The evening comes alive with traditional singing, dancing, local instruments, and rice wine shared with our hosts.
Day 2: Ha Giang (Approx. 210 km)
The morning starts with a short village ride before crossing a wide stream toward Yen The on Route 170. A scenic stop at O Do Waterfall in Yen Bai Province sets the tone for the day, followed by a coffee break before riding along the stunning Thac Ba lakeside to a hilltop pass with sweeping views of the lake below.
The route then winds through palm forests and limestone peaks into Luc Yen town, famed for its gemstones and framed by marble mountains, Thac Ba Lake, and the Chay River. After lunch, we push on through Viet Quang town and follow National Highway 2 for 60 km into Ha Giang City, arriving by late afternoon.
From the sparkling waters of Thac Ba to the rugged limestone ranges of Luc Yen and the sweeping rice terraces leading into Ha Giang, Day 2 delivers scenery at every turn.
Day 3: Dong Van (Approx. 180 km)
After breakfast, we set off at 8:30 a.m. toward the heart of Dong Van Geopark. Just 10 km from town, the route splits into two options based on your riding style and experience.
- Option 1 – Scenic Highway Ride
Follow National Highway 4C through rolling hills into Dong Van Geological Park, tackling steep 15% mountain passes with untouched border forests on one side and sweeping rice terraces on the other.
Key stops include the iconic Quan Ba Sky Gate, the stunning Co Tien Twin Mountains, traditional H’Mong flax weaving in Lung Tam village, and lunch in Yen Minh town. The afternoon continues to the historic H’Mong King’s Palace and the legendary Lung Cu Flagpole before arriving in Dong Van by 5:30 p.m.
- Option 2 – Extreme Off-road Adventure
For experienced riders, this intense 155 km off-road route tackles Ha Giang’s rawest dirt trails over roughly 7 hours. Demanding, rewarding, and deeply immersive, it is a true test of skill and stamina through some of northern Vietnam’s most remote terrain.
Day 4: Bao Lac (Approx. 120 km)
The day opens on twisting roads out of Dong Van toward Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of northern Vietnam’s four great passes at 1,200m above sea level. Stop to soak in sweeping views over the poetic Nho Que River, with an optional 3 to 5 km off-road climb to the mountain peak for breathtaking views of the geopark above the clouds.
By 11:30 a.m. we roll into Meo Vac for lunch, then choose your afternoon:
- Option 1 – Scenic Road Ride
A smooth 90 km cruise along National Highway 34 into Bao Lac for a comfortable end to the day.
- Option 2 – Off-road and Cultural Adventure
Cross the Nho Que River on bamboo rafts with your bike, conquer extreme dirt trails, and visit the legendary Khau Vai Love Market, one of the most unique cultural traditions in northern Vietnam. Covering 90 km but taking over 5 hours, this is one of the most memorable rides on any Vietnam motorcycle tour.
We end Day 4 safely in Bao Lac, having experienced the raw beauty of Ha Giang at its finest.
Highlights: Ma Pi Leng Pass, Nho Que River views, Meo Vac town, Khau Vai Love Market, bamboo raft river crossing
Day 5: Ba Be (Approx. 170 km)
Today’s route is one of the most impressive of the entire journey. The day begins on narrow roads that quickly give way to 40 km of rugged off-road trails, crossing streams, passing through remote villages, and riding beneath ancient forest canopies as Ba Be National Park draws closer.
A simple local lunch around midday perfectly matches the raw adventure of the ride. The afternoon continues through Cho Ra town before arriving at Pac Ngoi Village, a traditional Tay ethnic settlement nestled deep within the national park, by 4:00 p.m.
Later, enjoy a scenic boat trip on Ba Be Lake, with a chance for a refreshing swim if conditions allow. Pack your swimwear.
Day 6: Hanoi (Approx. 240 km)
Enjoy a leisure breakfast before back on the road for the final ride back to Hanoi.
